Unity Open – January 2025 Chess Tournament Phoenix
January 25 @ 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
A four-round Swiss chess tournament in phoenix designed for players of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Each player receives 45 minutes with a 5-second increment.
Details:
- USCF Rated: Current USCF membership is required.
- Rules: All USCF Tournament Rules apply, and the tournament director’s decisions are final.
- Notation: Required for all sections.
Entry Fee:
- $50 (2 units)
Play Up Option:
- $25 (1 unit): Players may play in a higher section if their current rating is within 200 points of the base for that section.
Note: Unity Chess players can send a message in the Telegram group to use their units to join the tournament.

Open Section (1800+):
- 1st: 25% of the total entry fee
- 2nd: 15% of the total entry fee
- 3rd: 10% of the total entry fee

Booster Section (1000-1399):
- 1st: Chess Trophy
- 2nd: Chess Trophy

Bishop Section (U1000):
- 1st: Chess Trophy

Schedule:
- Round 1: 9:00 – 10:30 AM
- Round 2: 10:45 – 12:15 PM
- Lunch Break: 12:15 – 1:30 PM
- Round 3: 1:30 – 2:45 PM
- Round 4: 3:00 – 4:30 PM
- Award Ceremony: 4:45 PM
Exciting New Prizes for Unity Open Tournaments!
We are thrilled to introduce a range of exciting new prizes to motivate and reward our dedicated players participating in the Unity Open tournaments! Starting this month, we are implementing the following awards:
Seasonal Champion
The Seasonal Champion title goes to the player with the highest points in each quarter’s (Jan-Mar, Apr-May, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec) Unity Open tournaments.
- Top Player for Each Section (Open, Reserve, Booster and Bishop)
Winners will receive a prestigious plaque with their name engraved on it, honoring their dedication and skill.
Champion of the Year
The Champion of the Year title will be awarded to players who have accumulated the most points throughout the calendar year in our Unity Open tournaments. Top 5 players in each section will be awarded a Big Trophy for their outstanding performance.
Top Player in each section will also receive the following cash prizes:
- Open: $200
- Reserve: $100
- Booster: $100
- Bishop: $100
